Amazon Kindle 3 is a wireless connectivity e-book reader manufactured by Amazon.com. It can be used to browse, download, shop online, read e-books, newspapers, magazines, blogs and other digital media. It is the third and the latest version and was released on 28th July 2010. During the past year it has become so popular that most companies and customers refer to it simply as “Kindle 3”.
The Kindle 3 is available in two versions depending on their connectivity. Kindle Wi-Fi connects to the internet through private or public Wi-Fi (wireless networking technology) networks, and costs about US$139. The other version costs US$189 and its connectivity includes both 3G and Wi-Fi. Due to its 3G connectivity, it uses the same signals as that of cell phones, making it easy to use wherever your location may be. The 3G Kindle model is available in two colors: graphite and classic white. Both versions use E ink display which has a faster refresh rate and higher contrast than previous display.
Kindle 3 uses a Freescale i. MX353 application processor, Freescale MC13892 power management chip, Epson EINK controller and Samsung DRAM and Flash. Other specifications include a larger1750 mAh lithium polymer battery, Any DATA DTP-600w 3G GSM modem and Atheros AR6102G 802.11bg Wi-Fi chip.
The new device has additional fonts, international Unicode characters, and an experimental browser based on the popular WebKit rendering engine. Its internal memory has been expanded to 4 GB to accommodate even more user content than before. In storage space, this device can store up to 3,500 books, so there is no need of keeping a lot of shelves in your study or making frequent rounds to the public library as you have an efficient portable library right in your hands. Moreover, with wireless turned off, Kindle 3’s battery life can go up to an astonishing 30 days of reading on just one charge.
There is also a noticeable difference in size compared to Kindle 2. Compared to its predecessor, the Kindle 3 is 0.5 inches shorter and 0.5 inch inches narrower which makes it incredibly small but easy to use. It won’t be wrong to say that the size fits perfectly in a user’s hands. If it were anything less it would be too difficult to use, and if it was wide, it would be too cumbersome and difficult to handle.
A great advantage of the Kindle is that you don’t need to install anything on your PC to enjoy its services and it also comes with a free manual from Amazon. What is clear is that if you are looking for a stand-alone electronic reader (i.e. a portable replacement for physical books), it is the go-to and standard-setting entity. While Nook of Barnes and Noble is probably the biggest competitor, Amazon has managed to grab the largest share of the market due to its sleek new design and advanced features.
Lately, Kindle 3 has been doing significantly well in the market and within the first few days after its release, a lot of customers enjoyed its advanced features from those of previous versions and also commented positively on the efficiency of the device.
